Introduction
In May, 2004,
a Major in the army was given notice that he would be deployed in a
few months to Iraq. Patrick has an outstanding wife and 4 beautiful
children.
Patrick is my
nephew. Feeling compelled to do something to show the all-volunteer
men and women serving in the Military that we support them and deeply
appreciate their service to our country, my idea was born that was well
received by a wide circle of friends; our Priest and Pastors of 3 churches;
the Mayor and Town Council; Library; American Legion and the Firehouse.
It is plain to see that an idea spoken, gives a voice to a similar idea
of many.
Phase One
A group of friends cut, rolled and distributed 4,000 ribbons (l2,000
yds. equals 6.8 miles of ribbon). Ribbons are tied around trees and
utility poles all around town.
Folklore says
that tying a yellow ribbon is a very old tradition for an absent loved-one.
Phase Two
We are in the process of collecting donated supplies that are being
dropped off at our local Library that will then be packed and shipped.
Monetary donations will also be used to purchase items on the list that
are not donated.
The Lists of
Supplies, requested by the Troops, are available at the Library, Town
Hall, and our Website.
We also need
monetary donations for shipping in order for the supplies to reach their
destination in a matter of weeks and not an indefinite period.
If you would
like to support us, please click on the information to view our flyer.
If you are out
of town, please send a monetary donation only.
Are we making
a difference? It is gratifying to know that we are; we have received many e-mails
from soldiers from our area who have been deployed to Iraq. The reoccurring theme is "Thanks for your support and prayers. It helps us all to
keep on going over here."
We know that
our mission is an important one. We hope that you feel the same way.
Please Tie
a Yellow Ribbon, it is another symbol of love. Everyone away from home
always needs to know they are loved.
Thank you for
visiting our Website. We will continue to update and keep you informed.
